Clowndance Syllabus

Game: The Object Talent Show
I will place an assortment of small household objects on the floor of the studio. These could be anything- bits of stationery, items of clothing, kitchen implements… I will not include any toys or objects that represent a person or animal.

Move around the space and take a look at the objects. When an object piques your curiosity play with it for a few minutes. The game is to uncover that object’s hidden talent- a movement that it can perform. This is not the object’s function (that it's day job) it's the secret talent that you didn't know it had.

The rule is that the object is the performer, not you. Don’t use the object as a prop or costume.

When you have found your object’s secret talent get the attention of everybody else in the room- ideally nonverbally- and demonstrate your object’s talent. When we've seen it we will applaud the object.

Then…
once you have discovered your object’s talent, the movement it can perform, see if you can recreate it with your own body. Again call the attention of the room, demonstrate the object’s talent, recreate it in your own body, and then everyone else will attempt to copy your recreation.

You can play with multiple objects, and when we feel we have explored all the possibilities, I will call the game to a close.

Reflection
What did you see?
What did you hear?
What did you feel?
What did you enjoy?
